Causes of Aphasia

Aphasia is caused by damage to the language centres of the brain.

This can be due to a stroke, head injury or a neurological condition, such as a brain tumour or as a side-effect of neurosurgery. Aphasia can also occur after a brain infection such as encephalitis or other neurological condition such as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Speakability supports adults who have acquired Aphasia. The charity Afasic supports children who have developmental Aphasia.
